【Part used】: Anemarrhena asphodeloides Bunge is a dry rhizome of perennial herbaceous plants in the family Asparaceae. The rhizome of Zhimu is transverse, and the whole plant is hairless; The base of the leaves is clustered and in the shape of grass leaves; Racemes, upright stems, elongated perianth, pollen red, light purple to white; The capsule is hexagonal and oval shaped, with black seeds. The fruiting period is from June to September. (1) Used for diseases such as warm heat, high fever and irritability, thirst, and excessive pulse in the lungs and stomach, as well as lung heat, asthma, cough, and thick phlegm. Zhi Mu is bitter cold and can clear lung heat in the upper part and stomach fire in the middle, so it is suitable for diseases with solid heat in the lungs and stomach. This product is often used together with gypsum to enhance its heat clearing and fire purging effects.

(2) Used for symptoms such as yin deficiency, fever, fatigue, cough, and thirst. Zhi Mu can expel lung fire and nourish the kidneys, so it can not only clear excess heat but also clear deficiency heat. In clinical practice, it is often used together with Huang Bai and mixed with nourishing yin medicines, such as Zhibai Dihuang Wan, to treat yin deficiency, excessive fire, hot flashes, and bone steaming. This product is paired with nourishing and lung moistening drugs such as ginseng, Ophiopogon japonicus, and Chuanbei, and can be used for cough caused by lung deficiency and dryness; Paired with heat clearing and fluid generating medicines such as Tianfen, Ophiopogon, Pueraria lobata, etc., it can be used to treat thirst.
